Who We Are

Mission: To restore, beautify, and maintain Canco Park, complementing the efforts of the various Jersey City Departments.

Canco Park is 15,000 square feet of beautiful passive park with a rolling grass hill and a stand of white birch trees to sit under on a warm summer day.

In the spring of 2018, the Canco Park Conservancy was formed in an effort to foster community and well-being in the park. We restore and preserve Canco Park the only public green space within the densely developed neighborhood of Journal Square, Jersey City, NJ.

What We Do

We create community-building programming to educate and entertain the public. Native plants, habitat creation and pollinator and wildlife support are an important part of our mission. The Conservancy has helped the park be in sync with nature by planting native species plants. Our rain gardens are a sample of what is possible through the use of native plants and habitats.

Canco Park is a living green community HUB for our neighborhood. We currently have several ongoing projects all for the benefit of the park and the residents of Jersey City including:

  • Restoring the flowerbeds using native plants, creating the most impact to aid bird, wildlife and pollinator habitats.
  • Children’s educational programming & art classes for ages 6-12 years old.
  • Seed sharing as well on education on native plantings in Jersey City.
